Come To Our Fertility Meet Up: Saturday 3rd March

The first saturday of the month is approaching, which means it’s almost time for our next fertility meet up. This takes place on Saturday 3rd March between 10am-12pm at the Salumeria, Leeds. This is an open space with no agenda for any woman or man who is wishing to have a baby and may be struggling. Anyone is welcome may be trying to get pregnant naturally, have had IVF or are about to have IVF, those whom have been through miscarriage and those who are struggling to conceive their much wanted second child.

Our stories will all be different and unique but we share many things. One of these things can be a sense of feeling isolated or being sick of being asked “any news?”. Many of us will have been offered unasked for advice – “Just go on holiday, have a drink and relax- it will happen easily”. Personally I wanted to punch those people! The women I know who want a baby know pretty much everything there is to know about getting pregnant. They are experts!

How nice could it be to be in a room with other people who know what it is to feel sad, bereft, desperate, despairing, misunderstood?

When I was trying to conceive back in my 30’s I didn’t know anyone who was going through the same experience. There was no-one I could ask for advice, or to just describe how I was feeling and know they may have understood some of the pain and uncertainty I was living with. Sometimes I wanted to talk to someone who wasn’t my husband, who wasn’t a member of my family and who I did not know that well in other circumstances.

What I am proposing is that some of us get together, in a room above a deli cafe, in Headingley, Leeds and see what happens. There will be no formal agenda, no speaker, no presentation, not even me talking about acupuncture. What there will be is coffee or tea and cake to buy and share together whilst we chat.

I have reserved the room at Salvo’s Salumeria between 10am-12pm on saturday 3rd March. It is upstairs, through the cafe, so a separate space to the busy cafe. You are free to drop in for some or all of it. All I ask is that if you’d like to come to let me know so I know there is enough space for us.

We have now been running our fertility drop in for a year and as ever, the lovely Veena will be there to meet and greet you and I shall be there at the beginning for a coffee.

Last month two male partners also came to the group and we are keen for men to feel welcome too.

There is no cost, other than your own drink and snacks.

Some women I have mentioned this to have said that they may be terrified to come in, although keen to come along. I think this is a feeling many will share. Come anyway- you don’t have to speak at all. You certainly don’t have to say anything you don’t want to. Just bring yourself. Just being in the room together could make us feel stronger.

The Salumeria is at 107 Otley Road, Leeds, LS6 3PX. It’s sister restaurant Salvos is a few doors down. There is parking outside and in nearby streets which is free for 2 hours, or a private parking space which costs over the road.

Come back to me if you have any questions and let me know if you’d like to join me.
