The BBC news presenter, Kate Silverton, aged 43, has had an arduous fertility journey that many of our patients would recognise. She had an ovary removed aged 29, and then had years of failed IVF’s before conceiving her first child naturally. She was desperate for a second child, and after two miscarriages, she decided to follow a holistic route to increase her chances of conceiving and carrying to full term and used acupuncture and cranial-sacral osteopathy.
She said: ‘I haven’t spoken about the miscarriages before, but I think it’s important to talk about … because I believe that despite the difficult times, there is always hope.’

We see many women like Kate in Clinic. Although we all know that our age affects our fertility and miscarriage rates, we also see some women who have been told that they will never conceive and beat all odds and go on to have healthy babies. We don’t want to encourage false hope to women, but we do want to support women to be in tune with their bodies and sometimes ‘miracles do happen’!
