Is Menopause Being Over-Medicalised?

This article raises some interesting questions about whether menopause has become over-medicalised. We love treating menopausal symptoms and see women who choose acupuncture as a way of managing symptoms as well as women who may have chosen HRT but still experience some symptoms. We all forge our own path and make our own choices and there’s no judgement from us about your choice.
My own choice has been to dive into various therapies as and when needed. Initially when I was experiencing insomnia, anxiety and lower libido I sought out homeopathy which worked for me. Later the flushes started and acupuncture has always been my ‘go to’ to lessen or rid those (thanks to the lovely Rach)- often needing needles just every month or so. The GP has prescribed vaginal progesterone for atrophy and now being menopausal with no period for 15 months, the only issue I continue to manage is occasional sleep disruption (thanks to friends, colleagues and clients for tips- antihistamines, magnesium, melatonin patches, Bach flower remedies and of course, acupuncture).
Do talk to us if you’re struggling with symptoms and whether you choose acupuncture to help support you or not, please do choose your own path and know that symptoms ebb and flow over time.
